The first three weeks of the season will be a good gauge as to whether Varsity will be genuine contenders for the Jubilee Cup and Hankin Sheild. Traditionally slow starters, Varsity will have to be fast out of the blocks as they face potentially the two toughest teams in the competition in the first two weeks.

The season will start against defending Hankin Sheild holders Kia Toa with the added spice of a couple of Varsity defections to the Double Blues.

The following week Varsity face COB whom will have a huge point to prove after being beaten in the only game between the two sides last year. COB must still be smarting after a poor competition format robbed them of a semi final place.
