The Massey University Rugby Football Club was established in 1929 following the establishment of the Massey Agricultural College in 1927. With over 75 seasons behind it, the club has a proud rugby heritage and strong sense of tradition.

Over the years, the club has had eight All Blacks, and has played a role in the development of 15 other All Backs. The club's last All Black was prop Mark Allen, and the most recent former Varsity A player that became an All Black is inside centre, Mark Ranby.

The club's playing jersey and strip reflects the traditional colours of the University: -
University blue (BCC Name: Midnight - BCC Number: 90)
Light blue (BCC Name: Forget-me-not - BCC Number: 84).

The Club's logo is the "Racing Ram's" head that was introduced in 1990 and display's a charging Ram's head within a Rugby Union Ball.

This stylised logo was based from the Four Horned Rams Head that was used in former years by the Students' Association. This, with its four horns, is unusual and memorable and provides a link with agriculture and the former College.

The jersey (left), along with our alternative strip (right), appears below.

The Massey University Club is the largest Club in the Manawatu and one of New Zealand's largest clubs, competing in most divisions from Senior One club rugby, through to Under 19's, and Women's grades. We are just as proud of our social or non-training teams which are the club's soul and add colour and vibrancy to the club.

Like most Student Club's in New Zealand, the club is renowned for its style of play and its spirit to the game. A commitment to free-flowing, fifteen man running is our favoured style of play, and the club's hospitality and sense of fun and hijinks is of legendary status.

The club makes every effort to have a high standard of coaching and training facilities available. In the two years since 2001 the club has added $70,000 dollars worth of training lights to the training fields at University and spend large sums on training aids, such as hit sheilds, tackle bags and tackly suits. The training field and associated wet training areas, located on the University Fields, ensure that training is possible in wet or dry conditions.

Other facilities at the University that can be organised for training and experience for our sides are in the weight training area of the Recreation Centre, the NZRFU's Institute of Rugby, and Community Athletics track at Massey University.

Massey University Rugby Football Club is located in Palmerston North, New Zealand. The Club is based at Massey University.

Our players play in competitions organised by the MRFU from roughly April through to late August.

The Massey University Rugby Football Club is a member club of the Manawatu Rugby Football Union and the New Zealand Universities Rugby Council.

Only Massey University RFC players in the Manawatu RFU can be selected for the New Zealand Universities side. MURFC players selected for NZU duties could mean an all expenses paid overseas tour, and to play in Test matches against other nations, depending on the NZU schedule.

More often than not, we also host touring overseas University sides, which allows our players to play Rugby against many diverse sides from a range of countries. In recent years Massey University RFC has hosted teams from Japan, France, USA, Canada and Australia.

A new inititive started in 2003 is for a Massey University RFC side to be taken on an Overseas tour. In 2003 a MURFC side was slected to play in a University tournament in South Africa. The tour was such a success that plans are being put in place to regularly take a MURFC side on an overseas tour every 2 years.

While our commitment to on-field excellence never wavers, Massey University rugby is ultimately about fun, enjoyment and friendship. It is the club of gentleman, athletes and scholars and all that that implies.
