A group of Varsity rugby players will show off more than just their footy skills when they bare all at a fundraising strip show.
The Massey Rugby Club Six Pack Strippers will be helping finance the club tour to the United Kingdom in November. Club chairman David Faulkner said the strip show was a cheap way for the players to raise the money. "We've got some big, big fixtures. We'll be playing Cambridge University a week out before their big match with Oxford at Twickenham, so it's not just a holiday." A choreographer has been brought in and rehearsals are under way, but Mr Faulkner was unsure how many players would strip right down. "One of two will go the Full Monty, but a couple are a bit shy. "We've got one player who is particularly well endowed, so no-one wants to go after him.
"Some of the guys were a bit shy at first, but we've had a couple of rehearsals and now they're quite looking forward to it." If the show was successful, there could be more, he said. Varsity captain and flanker Callum Gibbins was apprehensive about going The Full Monty. "I'll have to see how it all goes ... it should be a pretty good night and hopefully we get a bit of money." The 20-year-old said he was unknowingly roped in to the show. Varsity and Manawatu Turbos first five-eight Isaac Thompson, 21, said was not looking forward to getting all his gear off in front of a crowd. "It's a good cause, so I'm gonna have to man up and do it." A plumber by trade, Thompson said he had taken some heavy stick from workmates about the show. The players will also be auctioned off at the show, held at Scarfies on May 28. |
