The students won this one in a doddle, dominating all round and Bush was plainly disappointing a week after upsetting Kia Toa. This win now takes Varsity into 3rd place on the table.
Bush had a sound scrum, but that was it, unimaginative and having a sloppy day. Even Matty James and Frankie Bryant spilled the ball and the rest of the backs were no better. Varsity scored after two minutes on the way to six tries to one Bush penalty, which was kicked on halftime. All that despite Varsity losing both locks injured and Turbos prop Grant Polson going off with an injured back after 20 minutes. By then Varsity was up 20-0 and Bush wasn't firing a shot. Its best was halfback Adam Mabey. At Massey University: Varsity 32 (Scott Lewis 3, Hamish Clare 2, Louis Booth, tries; Isaac Thompson con) Bush 3 (Matty James pen)
