Varisty A managed a historic victory over COB 32-26. In Captain Josh Bradnocks 100th game Varsity managed to grind out the win in a close encounter.
Varsity first five Issac Thompson scored the opening try of the game, dotting down under the posts whilst a dust up was going on involving the one and only enforcer Bradnock. Thompson converted his own try making it 7-0. COB then went on the attack, putting the phases together in Varisty own half. Varsity's defense was solid until a well worked move from a scrum set peice saw COB first five Aaron Cruden stroll in under the post. Jason Morgan converted the try making it 7 a peice. Varsity then went on the attack in COB's half after some great tactical kicking from Thompson. From a lineout Varsity Thompson kicked a bomb which was not taken by COBs fullback David Walker as Varsity's Hamish Clare contested the ball. The ball popped into Steve Barrons hands who ran 20 metres to score under the posts. Thompson converted the try. The game then turned in COB's favour after some great tatical kicking pinning Varsity in their own 22. From a lineout COB scored a pushover try, and then scored another try on the left wing right before halftime after stringing the phases together. Varisty went in the half 19-14, but still far from out. The second half saw Varisty up the intensity knowing they had to score first. After a number of phases Thompson kicked over the top to his right winger Cameron Hayton who caught it on the full going under untouched. Thompson missed the conversion making it 19 all. Varisty then scored again when they worked it up the blindside and good passing between James Oakes and Josh Bradnock saw Oakes dash 20 metres to score in the corner. COB then placed Varisty under huge pressure, camping inside Varistys 22 for the next 15 minutes. Varisty defense was strong, but after repeat infrigements Oakes was sent to the bin for 10 after the team was placed on warning.
