Two Varsity players were named in the Manawatu Air NZ Cup side last week. Flanker and Varsity Captain Josh Bradnock and lock Alex Waite.

Good luck for the season ahead guys, and show your Varsity style.

For this region it means a great deal as the Manawatu Turbos game with Auckland at 2pm on Saturday 29 July will be this regions first hit out at this level for 18 years.Head Coach Dave Rennie is excited for the region but wants to keep his players feet firmly on the ground.

"This is the toughest provincial competition in the world. This year will be about setting measurable goals and working hard to achieve them. We want to work especially on earning the respect of the local community and the New Zealand rugby public. The guys are training well and going in the right direction but we all need to be patient with on field results," said Rennie.

Manawatu CEO - Hadyn Smith, is pleased to see the Turbos taking shape and supports the Head Coaches view.
"This is not a one year quick fix and those that know the game in New Zealand know that no team can take the steps Manawatu is taking in one quick motion. This is a three-year plan and the first stage is where Dave and the team is at now. I am especially pleased with all the squads attitude and reasons for being here and I think we should all take note of the giant steps they have already taken in terms of fitness, skill and commitment," said Smith.

The Manawatu Turbos Captain will be named after a series of training camps next Monday and Tuesday.
