COB escaped from an upset loss to Varsity on Saturday in a match that didn't have a high standard of play in it.
An upset looked likely after Varsity led 9-7 at halftime with the wind at it's back. The wind changed to be across the field in the second half - meaning the game was played on one side of the field in the second half and giving no real advantage to COB. Both forward packs were evenly matched, but the depth of COB bench proved to be the difference as injuries upset the Varsity backline. Even small half back Dan Waldon was placed onto the wing for Varsity. The final COB try at the end of play robbed Varsity of a deserved bonus point, a great forward effort by the Varsity forward pack and great penalty goals by first-five Isaac Thompson were features. For COB - good play by Jason Morgan at centre, but they do need to learn to shut up - the dribble and advice for the ref thoughout the match was of George Gregan sized proportions!
