Gollings to debut for local club
Recent Tasman Makos international recruit Ben Gollings is set to make an appearance in the local club rugby scene this weekend. The first five-eighths will take to the field for Picton-based club Waitohi in Saturday's clash with Awatere at Seddon Domain. Gollings is a well-known player for England on the IRB Sevens circuit where he holds a number of all-time world records. The evasive back has amassed a whopping 137 tries in the shortened form of the game along with an individual total of 1517 points. Gollings joined the Tasman squad earlier in the week from Australian club side Sunnybank. Tasman Rugby Union’s Marlborough area manager, Leith Bruning said everyone associated with the franchise was excited at the news that Gollings would play for a local club. "We think it is fantastic to have a player of such high calibre alongside the local boys," he said. "We're really happy to see the imported talent being spread around, with John Brookes playing in Pelorus." "Waitohi are near the bottom of the points table and have struggled for numbers this season so it will be a booster for those guys." |
