Varsity took an important bonus point in the race for the semi's with their 4 tries to 2 victory over Feilding Yellows on Saturday at Massey University.
Played in cold windy conditions the game was most likely the last for the giant locking combination of Alex Waite and Leon Power who now leave to take up duties for their respective NPC sides, Manawatu and Taranaki. The dominance that they had in the lineout's and the power they provided at scrum time will be sorely missed. Feilding had a furious first 10 minutes, but Varsity weathered the storm and then had 30 minutes of sustained play against the Yellows which gave them 3 tries and a 17-0 lead at the break. The second half was a messy stop-start affair and while Feilding scored 2 soft tires to Varsity's one - however it was all too late for the men in Yellow and Black. The win takes Varsity A to second on the points table with 18 points, still well behind competition pace setters COB who are on 26 points.
