Backs play well in tight game Print E-mail

Last Saturday the Maidens took on Eketahuna, looking for a win to bump us up the table.  However it was not meant to be.  The game was overly controlled by the ref and at times he was rather whistle happy and pedantic.  The maidens tried to use this to our advantage but other times it worked against us.  We scored under the posts in the first ten minutes.  Boots put a well executed chip kick behind the full back and Louise recovered it at pace to beat two players and score under the posts, it was awesome piece of play.  However ten minutes later we were in our 22, and battling to retain possession.  This summed up the game in some parts.  We were up and then a penalty or a turn over caused us to be on our heels.  Overall the backs played one of their best games, considering it is very rarely we have our full backline at trainings.  The forwards worked well.  Line outs are working extremely well thanks to the help of Matt Atinga from the Union.  However missed tackles throughout is what lost us the game at the end of the day.  We left the field with our heads still held high as we are continually improving and are welcoming the challenge against Bulls on our home turf next week.
