Leon Power
Leon Power - A 'Naki Man
Big Varsity Lock Leon Power will be turning out for the Amber and Black of Taranaki this year in the Air New Zealand Cup after Taranaki, in a daring move signed him under the noses of the Manawatu Union.

Leon Power who has been in the Manawatu 3 years, is originally from the Taranaki province, and since he has been with Varsity has played in every rep side in the Province, made the NZ Universities side and was this year a New Zealand Colts trialist.

With headlines such as "Manawatu cool on Power play"  and "Manawatu Angry as top lock nabbed" screaming from the local newspaper, we at MASSEYRUGBY.COM are not at all surprised that the another quality player has signed to join another Union.

The fact that Varsity - having only lost one game all season to date - can only manage to get a mere handful of players into the Manawatu NPC training squads is a kick in the guts to our players. It is nothing new - it happens every year.

The Varsity club has always operated on the knowledge that our players time with the club is limited to only a few short years as students attend University - and then move on. Nothing has changed and nothing will change that.

Frankly - we would be surprised if those in the Union would actually even know where the University was!!

To Leon - well done and best of luck, thanks for your time with the Varsity Club, you have been a fine player to have worn the Varsity colours, and your contribution to the Club Committee is also appreciated.
