South African rugby forward Bertus Mulder has been in New Zealand only a few days but would like to stay long term.

The 1.9m, 106kg No.8 studied accountancy before he joined the Sharks Super 12 squad in 2004 and has a hankering to continue his studies at Massey University.

Like former Springbok halfback Joggie Viljoen, he'd like to settle in Manawatu.

When Mulder arrived on Saturday to the onset of the winter chill, he at least had company in the form of two other South Africans who Manawatu has brought in for its first division team - Viljoen and threequarter Leon Lubbe.
