2006 Competition Format - Round 2 and Play-Offs:

(Ammended 17th May '06)

Please find listed below a reminder of the key points regarding Round 2 and the Play-Offs for each grade:

Senior 1

• Both pools ('Top Six' and 'Bottom Six') play two round robins (home and away) over 10 weeks: May 20th - July 22nd including Queens Birthday Weekend
The first placed team after this round will be awarded the Centennial Shield.
• The Top Six teams (seeded 1 to 6) are joined by the top two teams from the Bottom Six (seeds 7 and 8).  Seeds 1 and 2 have two lives.  Play-Offs are held over three weeks with games on July 29th, August 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 12th with the winner being awarded the Hankin Shield:
• The remaining four teams from the Bottom Six play a 3 game round-robin
• The last placed team of these four demotes to Senior 2 for the 2007 season (automatic - no promotion / relegation match) subject to the winner of the Senior 2 competition fulfilling the criteria for promotion.


Senior 2


• The bottom placed team in each pool after Round 1 (Bunnythorpe and Te Kawau) will drop down to the Senior Reserve Competition. The top two teams from the Senior Reserve Competition Pool A after Round 1 (Bulls and Linton) will take their places in the Bottom Six for Round 2.
• Both pools ('Top Six' and 'Bottom Six') play two round robins (home and away) over 10 weeks: May 20th - July 22nd including Queens Birthday Weekend
• The Top Six teams (seeded 1 to 6) are joined by the top two teams from the Bottom Six (seeds 7 and 8).  Seeds 1 and 2 have two lives.  Play-Offs are held over three weeks with games on July 29th, August 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 12th with the winner being awarded the Houlihan Cup:
• The remaining four teams from the Bottom Six play a 3 game round-robin


Colts Premier


• There has been adjustment between Colts Premier and Colts A based on first round results, at the discretion of the MRU, leading into round 2: Varsity Ag up to Colts Premier, PNBHS Colts withdraw.
• Both pools ('Top Six' and 'Bottom Six') play two round robins (home and away) over 10 weeks: May 20th - July 22nd including Queens Birthday Weekend
• The Top Six teams (seeded 1 to 6) are joined by the top two teams from the Bottom Six (seeds 7 and 8).  Seeds 1 and 2 have two lives. Play-Offs are held over three weeks with games on July 29th, August 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 12th with the winner being awarded the Gordon Brown Trophy:
• The remaining four teams from the Bottom Six play a 3 game round-robin

Senior Reserve

• The top 2 teams from Senior Reserve Pool A after Round 1 (Bulls and Linton) will be promoted to the Senior 2 Competition Bottom Six. The bottom team in each pool of the Senior 2 Competition after Round 1 (Bunnythorpe and Te Kawau) will replace them.
• Pool A (5 teams) will play two round robins (home and away) over 10 weeks: May 20th - July 22nd including Queens Birthday Weekend. Based on ranking after this round robin, the top 4 teams in will then play semi-finals on July 29th and Finals on August 5th.
• Pool B (8 teams) will play one round robin over 8 weeks: May 20th - July 1st including Queens Birthday Weekend. Based on ranking after this round robin, there will be quarterfinals on July 8th, semi-finals on July 15th and Finals on July 22nd.
• The winners of Pool A will be awarded the (Old) Gibbons Cup and the winners of Pool B will be awarded the Jack Payne Cup

Women

• All teams play one round robin: May 27th to June 24th, including Queens Birthday Weekend
• Based on ranking after this round robin, the top four teams will then play semi-finals on July 1st and a final on July 8th.
• The winner will be awarded the Prue Christie Cup


Colts A

• Colts A will join together with the U19 Grade to play a round robin from May 20th - July 8th, including Queens Birthday Weekend
• Based on ranking after this round robin, the top two Colts A teams will then play a final on July 22nd.
• The winner will be awarded the Broom Shield

Under 19


• U19s will join together with the Colts A Grade to play a round robin from May 20th - July 8th, including Queens Birthday Weekend
• Based on ranking after this round robin, the top two U19 teams will then play a final on July 22nd.
• The winner will be awarded the Old Evans Cup.

Presidents

• Following a re-draw on May 6th, Presidents are currently completing Round 1, which ends on June 17th.
• Round 2 is played from June 24th - August 5th, including Queens Birthday Weekend

ROUND ONE 

Please find listed below a reminder of the key points regarding Round 1 of the competition for each grade:

Senior 1

• Both pools play one round robin over 5 weeks: April 8th to May 6th including Easter weekend
• Cross-pool finals will be played on the May 13th. The first placed teams in each pool will compete for the Jubilee Cup.
• The top three teams in each pool will go into the top 6 for the second round of the competition. The bottom three teams in each pool will go into the bottom 6 repechage.

Senior 2

• Both pools play one round robin over 5 weeks: April 8th to May 6th including Easter weekend
• Cross-pool finals will be played on the May 13th. The first placed teams in each pool will compete for the John Clifford Memorial Trophy.
• The top three teams in each pool will go into the top 6 for the second round of the competition. The fourth and fifth placed teams in each pool will go into the bottom 6 repechage. The sixth placed team in each pool will be relegated to the Senior Reserve Grade. The top 2 teams from the Senior Reserve Grade will be promoted to the bottom 6 repechage.

Colts Premier

• Both pools play one round robin over 5 weeks: April 8th to May 6th including Easter weekend
• Cross-pool finals will be played on the May 13th. The first placed teams in each pool will compete for the NZ University Shield.
• A top 6 / bottom 6 structure will be put in place for the second round of the competition, taking into account the withdrawal of any teams. There MAY be team adjustment between Colts Premier and Colts A subject to first round results, at the discretion of the MRU, leading into round 2.

Senior Reserve (Formally Senior 3 and Senior 4)

• All 3 pools play one round robin: April 8th to May 13th, excluding Easter weekend.
• The first placed team in pool A will be awarded the Jack Payne Cup. The first placed team in pool B will be awarded the Lion Red Cup. The first placed team in pool C will be awarded the Life Members Cup.
• The top 2 teams from pool A will be promoted to the bottom 6 repechage of the Senior 2 competition second round. The bottom team from each pool of the Senior 2 competition after round 1 will be relegated to pool A of the Senior Reserve. There MAY be team adjustment between pool A / pool B and pool B / pool C subject to first round results, at the discretion of the MRU, leading into round 2.

Women

• All teams play one round robin: April 8th to May 13th, excluding Easter weekend.
• The first placed team will be awarded the Eketahuna Cup.

Colts A

• All teams play one round robin: April 8th to May 13th, excluding Easter weekend.
• The first placed team will be awarded the Gibbons Cup.
• There MAY be team adjustment between Colts Premier / Colts A and Colts A / Colts B, subject to first round results, at the discretion of the MRU, leading into round 2.

Colts B (Formally Under 19)

• All teams play one round robin: April 8th to May 13th, excluding Easter weekend.
• The first placed team will be awarded the Evans Cup.
• There MAY be team adjustment between Colts A / Colts B, subject to first round results, at the discretion of the MRU, leading into round 2.

Presidents

• All teams play one round robin: April 8th to May 13th, excluding Easter weekend.
